Microsoft Removes a Buggy AMD Driver From Windows Update

Has your AMD-based Windows 10 machine been giving you grief lately? It’s not just you; a recent AMD update caused some stability issues on Windows 10 machines, and Microsoft is rolling it back again after users pointed out the issue.

What Happened With the Faulty AMD Windows Update?

After the new AMD update began causing grief for users, some took to the internet to voice their complaints. One such voice was on the Windows 10 subreddit, with u/Tjuren_sew posting a thread called “( AMD Systems) Windows update installs SCSI driver and makes SSD unavailable = BSOD no boot device.”

The user discusses that they saw Windows Update download an AMD driver. They had a bad feeling about it, and sure enough, their PC had a Bluescreen of Death (BSOD) on boot. After three BSOD boots, Windows 10’s auto-repair saved the day by using a previous restore point.

Fortunately, a Windows 10 engineer hopped in the thread and gave a short but sweet reply that Microsoft had pulled the update. As such, if you use AMD, you can now safely update your operating system without fear of downloading the faulty update.

A recent Windows Update has caused AMD PC owners a lot of grief, but the update has thankfully been removed again. Now you can update your PC in peace without it going into a BSOD loop.

Despite Window’s woes with AMD, it’s still worth using them if you’re making a gaming PC. AMD has been busy closing the gap versus its competition in recent years, and its processors are no longer the second-best option behind Intel’s offerings.
