As announced on Windows Blogs, Microsoft is bringing redesigned icons for various File Explorer tools. These icons are currently part of the Dev channel, but it won’t be too long before you see them in stable Windows 10 releases.
Here’s what Microsoft has to say about this new change:
Several changes, such as the orientation of the folder icons and the default file type icons, have been made for greater consistency across Microsoft products that show files. Notably, the top-level user folders such as Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Pictures have a new design that should make it a little easier to tell them apart at a glance. And yes, the Recycle Bin icon has also been updated!
Quite a few items in File Explorer are getting a new icon, which means the overall look of this utility is going to improve.
For the past year or so, Microsoft has been working to make Windows 10’s icons look better and modern. As a result of these efforts, several built-in apps like Windows Security and Notepad received new icon sets.
Now, the company is bringing newly designed icons for various File Explorer items like Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, disk drives, and even the Recycle Bin.
Microsoft didn’t have much success with redesigning the Recycle Bin icon in the past, but it seems the company doesn’t want to stop trying.
Microsoft is bringing a few other changes as well in addition to new icons.
One of these changes is that Windows Administrative Tools is now renamed to Windows Tools. Another interesting news is that users in China will now have access to news and interests.
There will likely be more changes when the official update begins rolling out.
