A Windows 10 Leak Reveals a New Action Center… From Windows 10X

Windows 10X is truly gone, but Microsoft seems keen to implement the best bits onto Windows 10.

As the fabled Sun Valley update gets closer by the day, we’re finding more and more leaks related to the new Windows 10 UI design. Now, leakers have uncovered that Microsoft has ported over the Windows 10X Action Center onto the main branch of its operating system.

What’s Coming to the New Windows 10 Action Center?

Windows Latest spotted this new Action Center in the preview builds. Microsoft is clearly still working on it because it’s not actually visible on the test build right now. You have to do some prodding around with experimental flags using Visual Studio to unlock them.

When you activate the new Action Center, it looks very similar to what you had before. However, the new Action Center has a “Gripper” bar that you can drag. If you’ve ever seen the little “handles” on a mobile app that lets you resize something, it’s the same idea.

You can also summon the Action Center by swiping from the right. This gives you a quick and easy way to open up the Action Center to see your notifications or enable/disable features via the settings panel.

Interestingly enough, while both of these features are brand-new to Windows 10, they’ve actually been rescued from the sinking ship called Windows 10X. Recently, Microsoft shelved Windows 10X without warning and didn’t seem interested in picking it back up.

Now it seems that Microsoft is porting over the UI tweaks from Windows 10X into Windows 10. If anything acted as a death knell for Windows 10X, it’s this; fortunately, it doesn’t seem the work that went into the operating system will go to waste.

Not only that, but this hidden update also brings some rounded UI corners into the mix. Rounded corners are a hallmark of the new Sun Valley revamp, so it seems that Microsoft wants to continue rolling out these UI tweaks to testers ahead of the revamp’s release.

Out With the New, Into the Old

With Microsoft ceasing development on 10X, we were initially unsure if it was for good or not. With Windows 10 now receiving 10X’s UI tweaks, it seems it’s dead for good. If you’re an Insider, be sure to keep an eye out for a new Action Center and rounded UI edges in the future.

If you haven’t heard of Windows 10’s Sun Valley revamp before, now would be a great chance to jump in and see what the fuss is all about. For instance, the update will introduce a brand new app store.
